How do I access the Java Uninstall tool?

The tool is available on the Java Uninstall tool web page.

On macOS platform:
  1. Review the terms of use for the tool
  2. Click the I Agree to the Terms and Want to Continue button to download the tool
  3. Click the downloaded file to mount the DMG disk. In the opened disk content window, double click 'JavaUninstallTool.app' icon to start the tool.
  4. When you run the app, a prompt appears asking, 'JavaUninstallTool.app is an application downloaded fro the Internet. Are you sure you want to open it?' Click Open to allow the app to run.
  5. Before Java can be removed from your system, you will be prompted for permission. Java Uninstall Tool requires administrative permission to continue.

How do I remove a version below Java 7?

Releases prior to Java 7 were provided by Apple. Please follow their instructions for removing versions below Java 7.

Can I restore versions removed using the uninstall tool?

If after you have uninstalled Java and you find it is needed on your system, it will need to be reinstalled.

Will the Java Development Kit (JDK) be removed by the Uninstall tool?

No. The tool does not remove installations of the Java Development Kit (JDK). The tool only removes the Java Runtime Environment (JRE).
