Error Applying Transforms


This article applies to:
  • Platform(s):
    Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000 (SP4+), Windows XP (SP1 SP2), Vista, Windows 2003
  • JRE version(s):
    1.5.0, 6.0



SYMPTOMS

While attempting to install the Java 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (JRE), a message box with the following error appears:

Error applying transforms. Verify that the specified transform paths are valid.

CAUSE

We are still investigating the root cause of this issue.


SOLUTION

The following items are suggested workarounds for this error:

Offline Download/Install

Offline JRE installation Package - Click to download
Note: It is highly recommended to remove existing traces of JRE install from your system.

MSI Installation:
If the above option fails to install JRE successfully on your system, then you can continue with below instructions to install JRE using Microsoft Installer (MSI) option:
  • In the Windows Explorer menu, select Tools, followed by Folder Options....
  • Under the View tab, select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Click Apply to All Folders.
  • In your system's temporary application data folder, find the Sun\Java folder.
    For example:
    For Windows XP users:
    C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Application Data\Sun\Java
    For Windows Vista users:
    C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Sun\Java where corresponds to the username you used to login to Windows.
  • Inside the Java folder, find the folder that corresponds to the installed version of Java. For Java 6.0 Update 5, the folder is jre1.6.0_05. Open the folder.
  • Run the MSI file inside this folder to complete the installation.
  • You may wish to revert the setting that displays hidden files at this time.
  • Verify your Java Installation
