This article applies to:
  • Platform(s): Windows 2000 ,  Windows XP ,  Vista
  • Browser(s): Internet Explorer 6.x ,  Internet Explorer 7.x
  • Java version(s): 6.0 ,  6u10+

SYMPTOMS

While Java software installation is in progress, a message box with the following error appears:

Error 26011: Unpacking rt failed.

CAUSE

Error 26011 is an InstallShield error code. It indicates that the installation process has failed. This error can occur if a user is trying to install Java software on a drive having insufficient disk space. We are still investigating the root cause of the issue.
WORKAROUND

The installer requires about 100 MB of free disk space to expand in order to complete your Java software installation. Delete files that you do not need from your C: drive (or whichever drive you are installing to), in order to create sufficient free space for the Java software installation.
