
What is the offline method for downloading and installing Java for a Windows computer?

The procedure to install the JRE broadly consists of:
- Download and Install
- Enable and Configure
- Test Installation
This process requires you to download an executable file (e.g., jre-6u5-rc-windows-i586.exe, appx. 11.9 Mb size) that includes all the files needed for the complete installation. You do not need to remain connected to the Internet during the installation. The file can also be copied to a computer that is not connected to the Internet.

Download and Install
- Click on the link to download the Offline installation package:

The File Download dialog box appears.
- Click Save.
The Save As dialog box appears. 1.(Save the file to a known location on your computer, for example, to your desktop).
If you have previously downloaded this version of JRE, you may be prompted:
File jre-6u5-windows-i586-p.exe already exists. Do you want to replace it?
- Click Yes to replace.
- If you have downloaded the file to Desktop, then verify that: the name of the file is jre-6u5-windows-i586-p.exe
- Size is approximately 13.8 MB
- Close all applications including the browser.
- Double-click on the saved file icon to start the installation process.
The installer unpacks the files needed for the installation, which takes less than a minute. After
unpacking the installation files, a welcome screen is displayed, the installer presents an option to view
the license agreement. You may choose to Accept the license agreement and continue the installation
process
Click the Accept button to continue with the installation.
A few brief dialogs confirm the last steps of the installation process, and a concluding message appears
with the confirmation Thank You!.
